Parents As Teachers
You Are Your Child’s First and Most Important Teacher.
Building a bright future begins at home. When parents have the right support and resources during the early years, they build a foundation for a lifetime of learning. With Parents as Teachers, we partner with Lexington County families to ensure every child is healthy, safe, and ready to succeed.
What is Parents As Teachers?
A national, evidence-based model implemented by South Carolina First Steps, Parents as Teachers (PAT) promotes optimal early development, learning, and health for children by supporting parents and caregivers. The program is designed for expectant families and parents of children from birth through age five who want to ensure their child is on track for school success. Certified Parent Educators conduct regular personal visits with each family, providing age-appropriate activities, developmental screenings, and connections to community resources.
